Water retention is also called edema – include too much salt or alcohol, long periods
of inactivity and hormonal fluctuations.
Our systems are usually pretty expert at balancing the levels of fluid in our bodies, but
some things can temporarily upset that balance, causing the body to retain more water
than it needs.
First up, ditch the salt- say no to the salt shaker and avoid foods like salted nuts and
anchovies. Up your water intake and exercise regularly. Sipping on a herbal tea that
has a mild diuretic effect, such as parsley tea, can also be beneficial.
Stimulate the lymphatic system; each day, brush the entire body with a dry natural-bristle
body brush, using long, firm strokes in the direction of the heart.
