Your Guide To Home Health Care

Work-outs add muscle to flu vaccines..

YOUR FLU SHOT might be more effective if you exercise the muscle where it’s going to be injected. In a study of 60 young, healthy adults were told to rest six hours before their injection while others were asked to exercise their deltoid and biceps muscles by lifting and lowering a weight.

The men who exercise were later found to have higher levels of interferon-gamma, an indicator of how their cells were reacting to the flu shot.

The women who exercised produced more flu antibodies.

There needs to be more research to see if the people who exercised before the vaccination had less chance of getting the flu - but we already know that exercise can enhance the body’s production of antibodies, so what have you got to lose?
