Study Finds Children Not Genetically Damaged by ADHD Medications

A new study by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and

Duke University Medical Center found that medications for treatment of ADHD, methylphenidate and amphetamine, are not causing genetic damage. Other studies have differing findings.  The study was published in the Journal of the

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (JAACAP).
 

63 children diagnosed with ADHD (ages 6–12 years) who have not been previously treated with stimulant medication were involved in the study. They were divided in two groups and the researchers found no significant differences between them.
